Havelock is a pleasant little fishing village of 640 inhabitants, known as the "green mussel capital of the world". It is located on Pelorus Sound and was founded in 1857, before taking off thanks to the discovery of gold in 1864. Its proximity to some of the region's most beautiful sites as well as its gastronomy contribute to its activity. Queen Charlotte Drive is the name of the road to get there from Picton. It is a wonderful route to take! It is from Havelock that the ferries leave for the sounds but also the Pelorus Mail Boat, the local letter carrier since 1918 which you can join!
