A small town of 1,500 people, Martinborough is in the heart of a promising wine region. The town was founded in 1881 by John Martin, who decided to build the eight streets of the Square similar to the design represented on the Union Jack. Their names were chosen in reference to his many travels: Texas Street, Cologne Street... The town has more than twenty vineyards, most of them producing the famous pinot noir. The most popular activity in the area: rent a bike and pedal from vineyard to vineyard! The best time to do this is during Toast Martinborough in November, when the wineries come alive with live music
