Hastings (Heretaunga in Maori) is New Zealand's sixth-largest urban area, with its neighbor Napier only 20 kilometers (25 minutes) away. Although it doesn't have the same aura as the latter, it does have some similar charms, with wine-producing countryside and fine architecture, also the result of earthquakes such as the one in 1931. Napier and Hastings are nicknamed the " twin cities". With its Mediterranean climate, Napier is a very pleasant place to live, with 2,200 hours of sunshine a year and an average annual rainfall of 800 mm.
