SAIL BARBARY

The Barbary is a 50-foot two-master built in 1926. Although built in California, the vessel is in some ways a native of New Zealand, since it is constructed from kauri, a majestic tree endemic to the country (now protected and banned from exploitation). Due for refurbishment in 2022, the Barbary should soon be back in service, much to the delight of visitors. In the meantime, it's aboard eco-friendly electric yachts that our guides show us the secrets of Lake Taupo, such as the bas-reliefs of Mine Bay.
