Located some forty kilometers north of Dargaville, this 486-hectare reserve is a dense, lush forest dominated by kauris and giant ferns. Crossed by small streams, this mainland island is home to many endangered species: brown kiwi, wood pigeon(kukupa) and kauri snails . The Trounson Kauri Loop Track is an easy, pleasant 40-minute walk.
