With a population of about 470, Omapere, along with its twin Opononi, is located at the mouth of Hokianga Harbour and faces impressive giant dunes. Some beautiful views can be seen from State Highway 12 heading south. The locality is nicknamed the "place of cut grass". Here, dune surfing with a boogie board or body board is a common sandy activity! A true beach destination, the area offers a variety of water activities. If that doesn't appeal to you, head slightly north to Opononi at the Manea Footprints of Kupe Maori Cultural Center.
