The tiny Goat Island is only one hectare in size, but is located in the heart of New Zealand's oldest marine reserve, only 100 meters from the coastline. Its waters offer superb seabed, accessible directly from the beach and best enjoyed economically by snorkeling. A glass-bottom boat allows you to enjoy the island without getting wet and a discovery center allows you to better understand the richness of the site. If the island itself does not present any real interest, it has an important place in the local Maori culture, their ancestral canoe, the waka, having arrived in the area. It can be reached from Leigh.
