12 km west of the town of Ambo, the falls of the Gouder River, a tributary of the Blue Nile, are well worth a visit, especially after the rainy season (admission 50 birr). This quiet spot on the outskirts of the village is a good vantage point for birdwatching, which is particularly plentiful upstream of the falls. There is a small, rustic local hotel here, but we recommend you stay in Ambo.
