Petit Futé's opinion on LAKE WALK
The local community has set up boat tours for tourists and has some craft stands in the port. A private boat trip on this lake is a good opportunity to observe hippos, many of whom live here. The break on the island of Tullu Guddu (count 1h30 by boat to get there) is pleasant, even if the new monastery there is not very interesting (count 30 minutes of sports walking as it climbs). The ruined monastery, on the other hand, would have housed the Ark of the Covenant. It is now inhabited only by a few raccoons. To get there, you will cross picturesque villages on the island and admire traditional papyrus boats, the famous tankwas, and observe fishermen at work with their nets. Nice ride of 1 hour. Bird lovers will be able to observe hundreds of them on the bird island on their way back, especially pelicans. You can plan to picnic and eat fish on the island (but negotiate the price beforehand).
