Close to the Nile Gorge, the small town of Dejen is an important stopover on the way to Bahar Dar. There are only local restaurants for hardened stomachs, which we don't recommend. So remember to ask for a lunch box in Addis Ababa or Bahar Dar if you have to make the journey during the day and don't want to try a firfir, tibs or shiro in a roadside gargote. The road between Bahar Dar and Addis Ababa crosses the gigantic fault at a height difference of 1,000 m, arguably the most impressive in the country. The road winds endlessly through the Nile Gorge, and is not in good condition.
