Altitude: 2,470 m. Population: 88,000. Distance from Addis Ababa: 910 km. Tigray's second-largest city, Adigrat, a traditional transit center between Ethiopia and Eritrea, suffers from a closed border, but is gradually opening up since the signing of peace between the two countries in 2018 after two years of conflict. It is still closed to Faranjis , but the atmosphere is much more relaxed. It also serves as a stopover for all travelers who want to visit the rocky churches in the surrounding area.
