20 km from Bilbila, a left fork leads to Sekota, 80 km away (130 km and 3 hours from Lalibela). The road skirts Lake Ashenge and its fertile plain. The town of Sekota is actually located at the beginning of Tigray, on the border with Wolo and not far from Gondar. It was an important political center for several centuries. It was the seat of the Waagchoum, leaders of the ancient Lasta region. The main attraction is the Wukro Meskel Kristos church, 5 km east of the town. The name Sekota still echoes in the songs of the Azmari. Most of the inhabitants are Agao, descendants of the Zagoué dynasty.
