Sovietsk (with a transparent name), the second largest city in the enclave, can be a stopover between Kaliningrad and Lithuania. It is here that the treaties of Tilsit (the old name of the city) were signed in 1807, confirming Napoleon's victory over the Prussians and Russians. Tolstoy immortalized in War and Peace the armistice between Alexander I and Napoleon, which was concluded on a raft in the middle of the Neman. The sumptuous bridge of Queen Louise (wife of the Prussian King Friedrich-Wilhelm III), rebuilt after its destruction in 1944, can be seen here. Sovietsk also has Art Nouveau buildings around its main street, the oulitsa Pobedy (Victory Street)
