Located on the shores of Lake Kīšezers, Mežaparks ("Forest Park") is a popular place for strolling and relaxing among the Rīga population. Magnificent wooden residences are a reminder of the flourishing pre-war period. Children's playgrounds, a zoo and an auditorium where open-air concerts and song festivals are held enhance the park.Also worth avisit are the cemeteries in Aizsaules iela: Rainis Cemetery, where the famous poet is buried; Forest Cemetery, where the five victims of the January 1991 events are buried; and the Fraternal Cemetery, dedicated to fallen Latvian soldiers.
