The D11 is a quite pleasant mountain road, often on the edge of the forest. The starting point: Savane à Mulets is inaccessible by car, so you should park your car at Les Bains-Jaunes and continue on foot for about 45 minutes to the car park. The direction of the visit is well signposted (it takes 3 hours for the hiking). 50 m from the starting point, you can see a huge rock that protects the statue of Notre-Dame de Guadeloupe, nestled in a cavity. Have a look at it before continuing. The Chemin des Dames (marked out in yellow) is the departure of the ascent, on the left. it's climbing! Cheer up! The low vegetation is highly developped (wild strawberries, helmocks, philodendrons). Higher, the rocks of the Eboulement Faujas seem to restore the reign of stone. lichen, moss, sphagnum appear at the entrance. Beyond there, Grande Faille echoes the first. Pay attention to the risks of slipping. The trail becomes narrower during the ascent which, without offering a really steep slope, is a little demanding. It takes about thirty minutes walking on this steep path, and, although it's cool, you risk of getting hot all the same. At the crossing, on the right, before the summit, you will find a shelter and a beautiful viewpoint, that those who suffer from vertigo will contemplate… with hindsight. This shelter, also called "abri des Montagnards", has existed for more than sixty years. At its inauguration, a mass was said at the top of Soufrière, in front of about a thousand people, by a botanist father who loved the volcano. Arriving at the top, you are at 1467 m, and the view is extraordinary in fine weather, even though the wind, almost permanent, handles the sound animation. You can embrace Marie-Galante, Les Saintes and La Désirade at a single glance. With binoculars, it is generally possible to distinguish Dominica and even Martinique. The return route is in principle the same, but you can also take Col d'Echelle (turn left at the intersection of Grande Faille).
