The time machine exists! This island, once filled with broom, is the most rustic of the Aeolian Islands, the most mystical and the least touristy. Here you can walk, take a bus and even ride a mule (if you're in a good mood), and electric current has recently appeared thanks to solar panels. The inhabitants of the island, mostly fishermen, have a real sense of hospitality, as there are fewer tourists here. Alicudi is the most western island of the archipelago, 40 km from Lipari and 100 km from Milazzo. It is the smallest of the islands after Panarea (5.2 km2) and has only 150 inhabitants in low season From a distance, Alicudi, of volcanic origin, draws a cone in the Tyrrhenian Sea, like its big sister Stromboli. We disembark at the south-east of the island on the quay of the Palomba. The main urban center is located around this small port, in the area of the reef of the same name. Here the houses are scattered on the steep slopes and on the terraces where the caper trees are cultivated. On the other side, the western slope, rather inhospitable, with reddish and black tones, with its grooves that precipitate into the sea, testifies to the intense geological activity of Alicudi, largely constituted by the extinct volcano of the Montagnola. The highest point is the timpone delle Montagnola or filo dell'Arpa, with a height of 662 m
