This flourishing village is one of the gateways to Etna. The original village was built on the slopes of the volcano near the monastery of San Nicola. Since the 18th century, the village has welcomed the elite of European visitors, and its agricultural vocation has been transformed into a tourist one. The 12th century monastery, the sanctuary of Mompilieri and the baroque mother church are worth seeing. In summer, the town becomes a holiday resort for wealthy Sicilians, who enjoy the pine forests. It is an obligatory passage to reach the summit of Mount Etna by the southern slope. About twenty AST buses a day link Nicolosi to Catania.
