Situated on a peninsula north of Syracuse, this site was at the heart of the Mediterranean basin exchanges during the bronze age and is thus an essential testimony on the history of the region, one of the richest on this period, which has taken the name Thapsos for Historians. At the habitat level, excavations revealed remains showing the evolution of the urban structure between the th and th centuries BC, dwellings, tombs or fortifications. Above all, the objects found during excavations, from the major Mediterranean civilizations of that time, bear witness to the intensity of trade in this area. They are now clustered at the Syracuse Archaeological Museum.
