Endowed with a rich historical heritage, the Chaise-Dieu is a must for those who want to discover the Haute-Loire. Its abbey church Saint-Robert, in Gothic style, is home to several treasures. Let us mention for example the 144 stalls dating from the 14th century, a jewel of cabinet making. Let us also mention the long 26 m long fresco of danse macabre, dating from the 15th century, the oldest found in Europe, the 14 tapestries from the 16th century or the imposing 17th century organ. Since 1966, the commune has been highlighting this impressive heritage as part of its famous Chaise-Dieu festival, which brings together nearly 25,000 lovers of sacred music every year.
