The Norman churches and castle of this town of 4,000 inhabitants have an extra charm. The exterior of the church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption, which retains the simplicity of its 11th century style, is worth admiring. More recent (14th century) and redesigned in the Baroque style, the church of Saint-Augustin is worth a look for its 16th century terracotta statuary. You can climb a staircase cut into the rock to the castle where the peace treaty was signed in 1302, ending the conflict between the Aragonese and the Valois for the domination of Sicily. The Lumia Salvatore bus service from Agrigento offers 2 or 3 trips a day (2h15, via Sciacca, €7 one way).
