San Vito, a small bay leaning against Mount Monaco, whose town developed around an ancient Saracen fortress, has about 4,500 inhabitants and is now a very busy seaside resort, with only a long white sandy beach. There is nothing very interesting about the town, and you will come to San Vito almost exclusively to bask in the sun. If prolonged inactivity causes you problems of conscience, then you can go and admire, in the oldest part of the town, the quadrangular fortress of the 16th century (the Sanctuary of San Vito), which is now the Chiesa Madre. Beyond that, the road continues to Calampiso, a holiday village, and then ends at the entrance to the Zingaro reserve Every year, at the end of September, couscous is celebrated in the streets of San Vito. Tastings and meetings punctuate these festivities with African and Mediterranean accents that last about ten days. A kite festival also takes place in May
