Corleone, with 11,300 inhabitants, is known as the royal city of a hundred churches. It is located in a basin surrounded by mountains. The village was dominated successively by the Byzantines, the Arabs, the Normans from 1072, then the Saracens in 1104. Corleone is a name that is familiar to all moviegoers thanks to the famous saga of the Godfather. Remember Marlon Brando in the superb role of Don Corleone. Is it a coincidence that Mario Puzo, the author of the novel, chose this name, knowing that some of the heads of the Sicilian mafia come from this village? And yet, for several years, the town has been trying to rid itself of this sulphurous image linked to the octopus by organising anti-mafia demonstrations and by opening an anti-mafia and militant museum. And then there are many other things to see in this city: the municipality is rich in natural environments, waterfalls in the immediate east of the city or Dragon's gorge and Busambra mountain in the north.
