Hoima is a small town of little interest to tourists, but it is experiencing increasing traffic as the road has been paved from Kampala in anticipation of the Kabaale refinery, which will process crude oil from the region. Capital of the kingdom of Bunyoro-Kitara - once one of the most powerful in Central and East Africa - it is home to theOmukama (King) Palace of Bunyoro (Karuziika Palace) and the royal tombs of Mparo (4 km from the city centre on the Masindi road). Located less than 4 hours drive from Kampala, Hoima is a stopover town for visitors on their way to Murchison Falls
