At the foot of the Virunga mountain range and not far from the Congolese and Rwandan borders, the small town of Kisoro has in recent years seen an influx of refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo. But it remains a peaceful, green and dusty town with a central thoroughfare running east to west. This provincial town has banks, grocery stores, an office of the Uganda Wildlife Authority and some accommodation facilities. Kisoro is well worth a stop for its natural setting and tranquillity, but also for its proximity to Mgahinga and Bwindi National Parks.
