Playa Santa Lucía is about twenty kilometers of beach protected from the Atlantic Ocean by a huge coral reef. About thirty sites have been identified, with a small preference for Roca Lavandera, Torre de Coral (Coral Tower), Jardín de las Gorgonias (Gorgonian Garden) and the Pared de Bonitas. The beauty of the area inspired Ernest Hemingway when he crossed it aboard the yacht El Pilar in search of German submarines during the Second World War. The hotel and sports facilities are there, with a series of hotels with a total of more than 1,000 rooms. So don't expect to be alone on the sand in high season, but you will still be relatively quiet compared to other cayos... Less concrete than Varadero, Playa Santa Lucía still retains all its wild charm.
