The Plaza de Armas, formerly the Plaza de la Iglesia (Church Square), houses the city's first parish church. In addition to being a religious symbol, it is also the site of political and military institutions. After the demolition of the church in 1776, the square took on its current dimensions. In the 19th century, the captain general gave grandiose parties there, and the nobility rode in carriages. From restoration to restoration, the square has recovered its 1841 appearance: only the statue of Ferdinand VII has been replaced by that of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes.

Une très jolie place avec un petit parc arboré vraiment agréable pour se reposer un peu à l'ombre. J'ai beaucoup aimé y aller avec ma fille, elle y trouvait toujours des enfants cubains pour courir et jouer avec elle.

Very beautiful colonial square bordered by colonial palaces like that of the commander today museum of the city or still the astonishing little museum of natural history. Note the paved road of wood before the museum to prevent the wheels from disturbing the Spanish governor at the time. More or less antique shops attract the central garden and offer a wide range of interesting objects.

Très belle place, très animée, que j'ai vu à la fois sous une pluie soudaine et battante, et sous le soleil. Très animée, de nombreux bars et restaurants attirent les touristes. Un petit parc arboré, au centre de la place, permet de se reposer dans un endroit plus frais.
