To reach Church, you must move away from the main road to reach the fertile banks of the Euphrates. After crossing small hamlets made up of mud houses, the wall of the site appears, majuestueuse on the horizon. On the right, the Euphrates écoule and on the opposite side you may find the train that links Deir ez-Zor in Aleppo. The site was fortified by the Palmyréniens during the third century to serve as the Euphrates checkpoint, at a point where the valley narrows. He then named the Queen of Palmyra. After the crash of the rebellion led by Zenobia, the Romans named him in their defence system of Limes. In the same concern for border protection, Justinian developed the site in the th century and gave him the form we know him today. The Arabs will build a small fortress at the summit.
