Georgian style house in the Bronx considered as the scene of the great hours of American history.

This is the oldest house in the Bronx, built in 1748 by the wealthy Dutch landowner Frederick Van Cortlandt. Fields surrounded the house during the founding family's lifetime, where slaves worked. But the Georgian-style house was also the scene of great moments in American history (George Washington prepared his triumphal march on New York in 1783). The Van Cortland family donated the house to the City of New York in 1889, leaving most of the period furniture.
