Zoological park offering an interesting visit in summer to see more than 6,000 animals, including some rare species.
Founded in 1889, this zoological park is one of the largest in the world. Its size has allowed it to let its animals go free. It covers 170 hectares of wooded land and is home to more than 6,000 animals of about 650 species and subspecies. For large animals such as bears, tigers, giraffes, there are no cages but arranged spaces, close to their natural environment of origin. The zoo is home to many rare species, most of which are endangered, such as Siberian tigers, Asian elephants and Chinese alligators. The park is divided into several areas corresponding to geographical areas. The Wild Asia Complex is inhabited by wild animals from Asia. A reconstruction of the Himalayan mountain environment shelters the very rare snow leopard or white leopard and the red panda. The Congo Gorilla Forest is particularly impressive. More than 400 animals of 55 species from tropical forests live freely in this 14.5 hectare area, which reproduces their natural environment. The visit of the zoo is more interesting in summer, because in winter many species are protected. However, you will have to come earlier in the week and earlier to be calm. More than two million visitors cross the different territories of the zoo every year, either by safari train or by Wild Asia Monorail, the best means of transport to visit the sites.
