This peaceful and peasant town in pure Renaissance style is the seat of an academy of the Guardia Civil. Around the Plaza del Pópulo and the lively Paseo de la Constitución, lined by numerous bars, there are several palaces with remarkable façades and carved coats of arms as well as various beautiful religious monuments. Asleep in winter, the city awakens a little to the beautiful days thanks to its summer university where Antonio Machado was a French professor and which pays tribute to him by organizing a poetry prize that bears his name. In 2003, Baeza was added to the list of World Heritage Sites.
