Perched on a basaltic casting, 570 m above sea level, the village of Chilhac dominates the Allier valley. Chilhac is known mainly for its large basaltic organs: when a large amount of lava cools extremely slowly, irregular forms and especially organs are obtained. Those of Chilhac are very impressive. From the terrace of the church, the eyes stop in this populated region for nearly two million years. Chilhac is the cradle of Unattainable, the rustic sheep race of the Massif massif.
