With its cliffs rising to 426 m above sea level, it can be seen for up to 100 km around. A visit to this 6 km² state is a curious experience. After crossing the isthmus that separates the rock from the mainland, it's like entering an English town. The climate and beaches are reminiscent of its location in southern Spain, but the buildings, phone booths, bobbies, pubs and currency all point to its British origins. The population is a mixture of Genoese, Portuguese, Jews, Maltese, Hindus, Asians... English, the official language, and Spanish, or a mixture, are spoken. It remains a very big stone in the relations between Spain and Great Britain.
