Built on the Guadaira River, this city of more than 75,000 inhabitants stands out for its old town and its beautiful neighbourhoods, such as the Urbanización Oromana, where beautiful villas with swimming pools are built. Next to the Oromana Park is a natural area covered with lush vegetation. The town has a rich architectural heritage, of which the most outstanding testimony is undoubtedly the Almohad fortress, the largest of its kind in Europe. It was one of the stops on the journey from Seville to Granada made by the writer Washington Irving in 1829, which gave rise to the Tales of the Alhambra, published in 1832
