Monastery bought by an Englishman in 1839 and became a ceramic and porcelain factory

The origins of this set date from the thirteenth century; the order of San Bruno takes place in the monastery of Santa María de las Cuevas at the beginning of the fifteenth century. In 1810 the monks were expelled by the Napoleonic troops who elected the monastery as a military quarter. Bought by an English (Pickman) in 1839, the site became a ceramic and porcelain factory, which explains its furnaces and chimneys, five of which are still standing. Located in the area of the Exhibition of 1992, it has recently been home to the Andalusian Center of Contemporary Art (CAAC), which organizes various events (including an electronic creation festival and the biennial art biennale) and presents a permanent collection and temporary exhibitions (photographers, video artists, plasticians, painters…). Wednesday night, free flamenco shows.
