The th and th century abbey church is one of the most interesting Romanesque buildings in Velay. The nave flanked by côtés opens onto a transept crowned with a coupole dome and whose pillars are decorated with frescos. The apse, large dimensions, lost his ambulatory. It houses a remarkable baptismal character with the four prophets, a th century door to the painted walls and the tomb of Bishop Etienne de Chalencon. The remains of the cloister of the th century have columns with géminées columns decorated with plant motifs. You can finish the visit by bypassing the cloister by way of the road. Beautiful persectives on the Loire on the lower side and the close mountains, including the peak of Artias where the ruins of the castle dominate. What a pity that acts of vandalism in 2012 forced the town hall to close the church to the public outside the opening period of the information point. The Festival of La Chaise-Dieu is some of its sacred concerts.
