With a population of around 65,000 and an altitude of 550 meters, Curepipe is the southernmost and largest town on the central plateau. Although not beautiful, it is not lacking in charm, with a few old Creole buildings surrounded by concrete: the town hall, the Collège Royal, the Domaine des Aubineaux... Above all, it's a city of commerce, where travelers can pick up souvenir gifts, particularly model boats, a craft that makes Curepipe the epicenter of the region. The metropolis is also the island's cultural capital, the place to be if you're a successful Mauritian.
