The village is famous for its sugar factory, probably the oldest on the island still crushing cane at the very beginning of the 21st century... Like many others, the factory closed its doors for good in 2006, due to centralization and cost-cutting, but the vast building can still be seen today, bearing witness to a bygone era and the economic changes underway. The coastline, on the other hand, is the object of much envy and is already home to one of Mauritius's most exclusive 5-star-luxury establishments, built around a huge spa. People come here for wellness breaks in this still "wild" part of the island.
