This is Black River's only seaside restaurant: slightly overhanging the beach, under thatched kiosks, a few tables languish on decks bordered by a bar and swimming pool. Cool by day, soft and subdued by night. The menu exalts well-cooked products from Mauritius and beyond: tapas to share, fresh salads, Creole dishes, grills, sweet treats... Don't forget to book in advance, as the place is renowned and very busy on Fridays and Saturdays, when musicians make the dishes sing.

In the heart of nature, this is the most bucolic restaurant in the area: a group of small chalets opening onto a large square of greenery, where a few tables and chairs under umbrellas welcome morning snacks, lunches with friends, and snacks just off the beach. The menu echoes this simplicity, offering a choice of mixed salads, vegetarian dishes, Mauritian fare and sweet treats. On-site: lounge-library, boutiques in chic cabanas ( healthy products, groceries...), spa and guesthouse (9 rooms).

In the open air, under large umbrellas, it is the active heart of the Ruisseau Créole shopping center: a hub of life where you can sit down at any time, between two shopping trips, for a coffee, a detox juice, a smoothie, a quick and inexpensive dish such as a croque monsieur, a panini or a mixed salad. On weekends, we come for the sports events, the regular and festive theme nights ( live music in particular) or for an aperitif before a barbecue at Medium Rare, the restaurant in the center, or a musical evening at The 21. Nice!

It's the oldest restaurant in the West, a haven for hunters in the pre-tourist era, a convivial place where people came to recount their exploits and feast with their rifles slung over their shoulders! From these bygone days, the establishment has retained a semblance of rustic charm, recently revitalized by local youth. While game (venison, wild boar) and/or seafood are still on offer, the courtyard is a popular venue for long aperitifs and festivities on Thursday evenings. The ancestor has the wind in his sails!

In an area where many South Africans reside, here is a pure local product that will not disappoint carnivores. All the classics are on the menu: chicken livers in Péri Péri sauce, T-Bone, filet, rump steak, ribs, garlic bread, burgers... and send in the fries and baked potatoes! For the ladies: smoked salmon terrine, grilled fish of the day, calamari... Nice wine list, nice setting and this commendable highlighting of local artistic production by the exhibition of paintings to look at and/or buy.

For years, the Frenchman Philippe has run this takeaway and catering service for lovers of good food. His credo: all the cuisines of the world! Daily choice of Asian, French, Italian, Mauritian, etc. dishes, sushi, salads, blanquette de veau, quiches...and also ready-to-cook barbecues, sauces, gratins, pastries, a fine selection of French cheeses and, to order: cold or hot canapés, terrines etc. For dessert, no hesitation, opt for the famous homemade chocolate mousse!

We love the setting of this small restaurant which offers the privilege of a lush tropical garden well set back from the coastal road and the charm of a pretty wooden house nestled among the trees. We are on Thai soil, at the cook Ousaporn's who prepares, as in her country, spring rolls, chicken skewers with satay sauce and other dishes from there. Sensitive taste buds, please check the icons so you don't come out with your mouth on fire! In the adorable vegetable garden are grown the herbs used to make the dishes so tasty.

Created in 1955, a benchmark in Mauritius, the island's oldest coarse fishing club, long privately owned, is now open to all, with its large shaded terrace and oceanfront garden. Before taking a seat, take a look at the photos of fishermen displaying their trophies. Big fish have always been caught in the West! From boat to plate, it's just a short step via a menu inspired by the ocean (tuna sashimi, sea bream) but not only (Caesar salad, burger). At weekends, it's a place to immerse yourself in local life. If you don't arrive at Nomad by chance at the end of this unlikely road, you'll want to come back! Breakfast, lunch, happy hour or dinner, it's all possible. With its large terrace haloed by umbrellas to enjoy some welcome shade, and its indoor room with its rather industrial decor, Nomad welcomes regulars and travelers alike to feast on eggs Benedict, masterfully-cooked burgers, generously-proportioned salads and ceviches... It's a popular spot, so book ahead! There's also a games room to keep the kids busy.

APO is the local Chinese restaurant that never disappoints - not a street food trailer, not a big impersonal room, but a table that is both local and modern with a nice decorating effort: red lacquered chairs, graphic shelves, walls covered with newspaper... We like it a lot! The menu is partly written in Creole and includes all the usual classics: crispy squid, spring rolls, lacquered duck and a wide range of dishes based on chicken, shrimps, fish... Also made to take away.

The restaurant occupies a large open-air square of lawn, slightly below the main road. You can dine in style under a large thatched gazebo or under the moonlight. It's a nice place, even just for an evening cocktail concocted by the owner himself. The menu features well-crafted fusion cuisine (honey chicken, venison stew, grilled squid...) and a selection of tapas and kebabs to nibble on around the bar, where guests flock on Saturday evenings for live concerts in a relaxed local atmosphere.

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best! Such is the case with this old catamaran hull transformed into a floating platform, like a deck on the sea. We're just a 3-minute boat ride from the coast (shuttle), in the superb bay of Rivière Noire, and that's enough for an immediate change of scenery: water all around, mountains in the distance, a cool playlist, and a choice of cocktails, tapas and home-cooked small dishes very fresh and skilfully executed. At sunset and in the evening breeze, we promise you enchanted moments. Privatization available. A real favorite!

Italy is invited to Black River in the well-cooked dishes of chef Rocco, whose restaurant attracts as many gourmets as his grocery store.
