The village of Flic en Flac is spread out along the coastal road and in the streets perpendicular to it. For years, the place has been the resort of some city dwellers of the plateaus who have built second homes that are interspersed with tourist complexes without much charm - except for the superb hotels of the Wolmar sector, further south. Bars, restaurants, bungalows, stores have invaded the coastline (but separated from the beach by a road), without any real layout or overall unity. The spaces without constructions are occupied by a marine cemetery of which the most opportunistic promoters, in their most intimate nightmares, have to evaluate each year the price of the square meter! The place has thus become the Grand Bay of the West: a busy and lively seaside area, where one will not come to look for the Mauritian soul... The edge of the ocean remains however pleasant. Wider than the average, the long and beautiful beach is lined with a profusion of filaos trees that partly shade it and promise sweet naps, games and picnics. Relatively quiet during the week, the place comes alive on weekends when many Mauritian families storm it, bringing tents, food and musical instruments. With the sounds of maravans and ice cream vendors, the beach takes on a festive air, very local and quite pleasant, unless you are looking for a quiet swimming area... Following the coastal road for a few hundred meters to the south, we reach Wolmar where the atmosphere changes radically: luxury, calm, green parks.
