Not so long ago, Grand Baie was just a small fishing village along a beautiful white sand beach, peaceful and planted with filaos. Over the years, the hamlet has radically changed its appearance. On both sides of the coastal road, the decor, now more commonplace, stands in bulk and disorder: supermarkets, stores, bars, apartments, guesthouses, hotels and rentals of all kinds. Invaded by restaurants and stores, the center does not really present the interest of a stay except if you are a night owl or if you are addicted to activities or shopping. If the color of the lagoon is still beautiful, if the bay remains superb, the filaos have almost disappeared and one has the impression to swim in the city. There is no beach left except for the Cuvette beach - and those of the luxury hotels Royal Palm Beachcomber and LUX* Grand Baie, which are superb but only for their clients. The bay is also now invaded by boats, sailboats, speedboats, catamarans and all kinds of watercrafts. To really appreciate the beauty of the lagoon, it is better to go to the huge beaches of Trou aux Biches and Mont Choisy or to enjoy a superb panoramic seascape from Cap Malheureux, a few kilometers further north.
