Pointe aux Canonniers forms a sort of peninsula just before Grand Bay. Like Ile Plate, this peninsula was once used as a quarantine area - a feature that Jean-Marie Le Clézio reveals in his novel La Quarantaine. The buildings were located on the site of the current Club Med and a moat separated the point from the rest of the island. It is the last remaining calm site before the agitation of Grand Bay, more composed of coves than long sandy stretches (except in front of the Club Med). The intensity of the lagoon is magnificent.
