A few kilometers south of Port-Louis, the quiet town of Moka, at the foot of the eponymous mountain range, is home to a few beautiful Creole houses that have been spared from the real estate frenzy. The prettiest of them, Eureka, can be visited. The others are still inhabited and only give a glimpse of their charms to those who dare to peek through the large gates. To contemplate these jewels of another age from afar, follow the A7 road to the Saint-Pierre district. On either side of the main road stand proud colonial houses in their gardens. It is necessary to be attentive, because the vegetation tends to mask them.
