This museum testifies to Singapore's renewed interest in Peranakan culture. Housed in a former schoolhouse built in 1912, the museum's nearly 1,200 exhibits give visitors a better understanding of the culture of the first Chinese migrants. Objects, richly ornamented garments and mother-of-pearl-inlaid wooden furniture reveal Chinese, Malay and European influences. We also discover the key moments in Peranakan life, such as marriage, a complex twelve-day ceremony.
