Situated in the foothills of the Cézallier, Blesle (population 600) is listed as one of France's most beautiful villages. The town owes its existence and development to its Benedictine abbey, founded in the 9th century (and disappeared during the French Revolution). Over time, it diversified into various local industries (livestock breeding, tanning, etc.) and prospered until the 17th century. The remains of the fortress built at the end of the 11th century by the Barons of Mercœur and the many half-timbered houses in the village are the reason for its tourist success. Every summer, the town hosts a musical event, "Les Apéros de Blesle".
