Over 260 million years old, the Endau-Rompin rainforest is unique in the world. It is located in a sparsely developed area of the peninsula, long off-limits to the public as it served as a base for Communist guerrillas. The park covers 870 km2, straddling the states of Johor and Pahang. Its flora and fauna are reputedly unique, but tracking animals requires a week's expedition. It is possible to climb the park's hills, but their slopes are very steep. An Orang Asli community lives in the village of Kampung Peta, and is well worth a visit.
