This is Paramaribo's first church, built in 1668. Initially dedicated to the Dutch colonists and gathering the country's elite, it was only after 1850 that it began to open up, introducing Creole. At the time, slaves from the plantations came here to pray. Formerly Catholic, it became evangelical in 1924. It was completed in 1837. The building has eight sides, like the original church, which was destroyed in the city fire of 1821.
