AMADYA MOSQUE AND NEVEH SHALOM SYNAGOGUE

Petit Futé's opinion on AMADYA MOSQUE AND NEVEH SHALOM SYNAGOGUE

Plate millesim 2022

Two imposing religious buildings in the Keizerstraat. They are enlarge and their proximity proves the great tolerance of the Surinamese. The synagogue is the oldest building of both: it dates back to 1897 and its architect, from Jerusalem, built the wooden soil, then covered with river sand from Kolakreek. The mosque was built in 1988, after asking for permission from the owners of the old synagogue.

Deux beaux bâtiments, évidemment très différents, mais dont la proximité est à l'image du puzzle des communautés qui composent le Suriname et se côtoient quotidiennement.
