Located in the north of the Devès range, Allègre is perched on the southern and eastern flanks of Mount Baury (alt. 1,126 m), with a faint summit, and faces Mount Bar (alt. 1,175 m), the historical boundary between the Velay and Auvergne. These two mountains are well known for their walks from the village. Mount Bar is the only strombolian volcano which shelters in its crater a peat bog of which one can make the tour by following an interpretation path. Of Allègre's rich historical past, all that remains is the gallows, a sort of unusual portico dominating the town, the remains of an important fortified castle. The farmers' market is held on Wednesday morning.
