Metete aquí! Metetí! "Put yourself here!" Driven by economic hardship, settlers from the interior took advantage of the road's construction to move here in search of new pastures. Soon the forests along the Pan-American Highway were cleared for cattle grazing. The village was built in a few years, in the shape of a T, along the Pan-American Highway and the road leading to Puerto Quimba. Metetí, the main road junction of the Darién, is a small, sprawling town of about 2,000 inhabitants. The town has no tourist interest, but you can find everything that will be scarce further on: gas stations, bank with ATM, supermarkets (you can buy boots and machetes there!) and a health center (+507 299 6151). There are a few budget hostels (Felicidad, Hospedaje Aruba) and basic restaurants as well, such as the popular Doña Lala, on the road to Puerto Quimba. The main attraction nearby is the Serranía Filo del Tallo, a hydrological reserve of more than 24,000 hectares, located not far from the urban area of Metetí, on the road to Puerto Quimba.
