The municipality is divided into two parts: Ydes village, the former head-site, and Ydes centre, a new agglomeration born from coal mining. His past seems to go back to the Gallo-Roman era, judging by the numerous discoveries made there, such as the remains of a thermal establishment - the Pra di Bagneyras. You can see a brick wall and stone and, above all, many lead piping that still cross the nearby gardens. A military point has also been discovered in the village, situated on the ancient Roman route to Clermont-Ferrand in Rodez. Many medieval documents still report the existence of this village. Ydes then sheltered a sect of Templar past the time, under the responsibility of the Hospitals of Saint-Jean-de-Jerusalem. The domain is now private, but tradition suggests that the church bell was buried in order not to be delivered to the requisition.
